All is well with the Thrift Shop. A plethora of donations continue to appear every week: clothing and a variety of household and other items. Without the donations, the shop would not only lack the fresh inventory that regular clients long for, but soon would have nothing to sell. Thus, the team is grateful for all donations and appreciative of those who think of our shop as a good place to recycle their treasures.
Somehow the team keeps up with the demands of sorting, pricing, and displaying everything that is donated. Nothing is more pleasing at the end of a Tuesday work session than (1) an empty sorting room and (2) the neat and inviting appearance of the tables, racks, and shelves in all display areas that are the result of the caring labors of the Thrift Shop team members and two volunteers who lend their special touch every Tuesday. “Work enthusiastically at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people,” Colossians 3:23.
The team recently turned over another significant contribution to the church treasury, putting the Thrift Shop exactly halfway toward completing its pledge for the year. At the same time, the team made another significant contribution to the Good Samaritan House Fund. We notice that Thursdays’ income is consistently greater than Saturdays’, sometimes two times as much, at least through June. The year-to-date total for both days is greater than the 2013 total at the same date. We praise God for the financial success of our shop.
As always, the team welcomes new volunteers. Try a half shift or a whole day, and see how you like it. A recent first-timer enjoyed her PM shift at the shop on a recent Thursday. “It was fun; everyone is very friendly.”
