The new Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) group is off to a great start. The February meeting dates are February 13 and 27. Games will be the theme for Feb. 13, and Feb. 27 will be a PJ/movie night. Youths are requested to bring some supplies for the food pantry to each meeting.
The meetings will be at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Youths do not have to be members of NSUMC to attend, or be a member of any church. All youths are welcome regardless of denomination or church affiliation.
At the first meeting, a group of more than a dozen boys and girls had a great time baking cookies, eating pizza, playing games, dancing, and just plain enjoying each other’s company! Leaders Kathy Bruno, Sue Briska, Jen McClintock, and Cathy Jaworowski immediately scheduled a second meeting for Friday, January 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. with cupcake baking and decorating, bingo, prizes, and more fun things on the agenda.
“Our group offers a safe, supervised fun place for 6th–12th graders to hang out, have fun, and meet new friends,” the leaders wrote in a flyer provided at the meeting and distributed at church. “Our focus is to encourage youth to grow in faith and use it in their everyday lives and challenges.” The group plans to participate in civic, service, and social activities that will make a difference in their communities.
Many NSUMC members are delighted with this new beginning of a group for middle and high school youths. Those attending the FORtreat on January 24 unanimously commended the leaders, and committed themselves individually and as a group, to support the MYF leaders and youths in any way they can.
