The Birth of NSUMC
North Shore United Methodist Church was founded in 1970 with twenty charter members from the First United Methodist Church in Port Jefferson, NY. They envisioned a church located between Riverhead and Port Jefferson and began to worship God with nothing except faith in Jesus Christ.
Growth and Our First Building
The congregation grew and, in 1975, established a church building in Wading River.
Tragedy in 1993
Our first church building was almost completely burnt down by a fire in 1993. The congregation lost the building, but not their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Church Resurrection
The church was resurrected in 1995 with many prayers, as the current building was erected at the location of the first church.
Even though the congregation went through that traumatic experience, they have survived and continued to grow to proclaim the Gospel. All of this is because of God's grace. So we boldly say like the apostle Paul, "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). A good thing comes not from a bad thing itself, but through a bad thing like Jesus' death on the cross, came the resurrection.
